Created: Wednesday, 21 February 2001 Written by PervisThe Melbourne Age reports: CityLink's Burnley Tunnel has been closed indefinitely after a water leak appeared halfway along the right-hand side of the tunnel this morning. "A water leak occurred in the Burnley Tunnel over a localised area in the vicinity of the Swan Street shaft at approximately 8.30 this morning," Geoff Phillips, the company secretary of the link's owner Transurban, said. "It has been decided to close the tunnel to allow the cause of the leakage to be investigated." Speculation at xenoxnews headquarters is that the cause is water from the Yarra coming in through a crack in the tunnel. We suggest, though, that until the cause can be correctly determined the tunnel should be re-opened.
